We are finally Home!

After 10 busy days in Mt Hagen, we said goodbye to our friends and took the final leg of our journey back home to Telefomin!

Our Australian neighbour, Richie, kindly flew to Hagen (via several other airstrips) to pick us, our suitcases, our groceries and a new freezer up and take us home.

We were greeted at the airstrip by some wonderful friends who waved as we landed and threw petals over us. We also found our front door beautifully decorated and 3 bunches of Telefomin flowers adorning our home to welcome us back.

It was strange to enter an empty house, but we filled it quickly with all of our things and then spent the following 4 days unpacking all our furniture and things which we had squeezed into Ryan’s office.

Farewell to the MAF Hanger in Mt Hagen…

Kathy, Umisa, Naomi, Nunta, Julie & Apo all welcomed us home with flowers and smiles.

Vero & Joyce, our “sisters” were busy working in the MAF transit house, but we popped in to have hugs!

Our Australian neighbours coloured in the beautiful posters and some of the local ladies put the flowers around the door. Whilst we were away, our wonderful Property Maintenance Department were busy, they varnished our floor and put up the bars on our windows. Sadly, after a break-in of a MAF house here back in March, we decided this was now necessary.

Beautiful Telefomin flowers to liven up our empty house, which got filled up quickly with boxes and suitcases! You can see here a cool box full of veg, a box full of eggs and another of tinned tuna. The essentials! ;-)
