Training Ground Staff in Telefomin

Last week was super busy as we hosted 7 members of the Ground Operations Department (Shiv’s new/old department) who came to Telefomin to do some refresher training. Our Ground Operations Trainer, Nawi Mabo, was part of the group. Nawi did refresher training with 9 staff from 5 bases; Madang, Tari, Kiunga, Tabubil and our own Telefomin. Between them they completed 5 courses; Load Manifest Preparation, Refueling, Dangerous Good Awareness, Danger Goods Acceptance & Safety Management Systems. Everyone had previously passed each course they were receiving a refresher in, but to squeeze all 5 courses into just 1 week was quite a challenge for Nawi. Shiv even took an hour of their time to share a devotion and explain the latest PNG COVID prevention measures.

We don’t usually have so many staff members at once to do so many courses, but we had to catch up a bit as our staff were unable to travel around to do refresher courses as usual in 2020. Often most of these courses would be conducted at each bases, except for Dangerous Goods Acceptance, being a more involved course, is usually taught in Mt Hagen where we have proper training facilities. However, on this occasion, it seemed most effective to do the training in our transit house in Telefomin.

Everyone passed each of their courses, so the week was a great success, even if it was very busy!

The staff from other bases mostly shared our transit house. Our wonderful local cleaner kindly agreed to cook their meals so they could all focus on the training courses.
