Name the Fruit…

You might expect me to show you some rare or exotic Papua New Guinean fruit, but no, name this fruit…

It’s not what you think!

Despite the distinctive orange colour, this is not an orange or a mandarin. This is, in fact…

A LEMON!

The man at the market corrected me, he said no, not an orange, a “muli”, the pidgin word for all citrus fruit, but usually referring to lemons. I thought he must be mistaken, but when I got it home and juiced it, he was indeed correct, it had the tart taste of a lemon, but not quite the same taste as a lemon-lemon, but very similar.

This is the first time I’ve ever seen orange-coloured fruit at our market in Telefomin, usually our oranges are green. But this just goes to show, don’t judge fruit by it’s skin! ;-D
