Munbil

Munbil is a village with its own airstrip and some Missionaries who work for “New Tribes Mission” on a Bible Translation and literacy project. Ryan recently has a flight in there where he took in a new Community Health Worker (CHW) and brought out a couple of people who had to go to hospital, they were unwell but not emergencies.

A CHW is like a nurse or a paramedic but with training for common bush problems like birth complications and snake bites; they are often the people who advise MAF if a person has a serious health problem and needs a Medical Evacuation Flight (Medevac). Although MAF flies hundreds of Medevacs within PNG every year, we do even more patient transfers, either of people needing to get non-urgent medical attention which is not available in their community, or when they are returning home after receiving medical care.
