Our Journey from the UK back to PNG
It look 3 international and 1 domestic flights to get us from the UK back to PNG, to Mt Hagen, MAF’s HQ, half way around the world!
London-Frankfurt-Singapore-Port Moresby-Mt Hagen
Flying to PNG, you almost expect delays in your flights, or baggage to get lost, but we only had very minor delays which did not result in us missing our connections and all our luggage came with us! Hooray!
We broke our long journey in Singapore, having a little holiday to help us get over the jet lag of the 10 hour time difference between the UK and PNG. This jet lag usually makes the first week in PNG extra challenging, so we’re really grateful we were able to have that rest as we have a very busy week ahead before we can return to our home in Telefomin.
We are now reunited with our dog, Koda. He was looked after by our dear friends, Dave & Caroline, fellow MAF-ers, who have their own dog, Phoenix, an affectionate gentle giant, who is like a big sister to Koda. We are so grateful he was so well looked after, despite having escaped on a few occasions.
Thank you so much for those of you who prayed us around the world! We experienced many blessings from God, such as not being charged any excess baggage fees on our journey from London to Singapore, having ideal weather the whole time we were in Singapore, and getting a free late check-out of 2pm from our hotel on the day of our departure, not to mention making all connections and arriving with all baggage!!!
When we went to check-in for our Singapore-Mt Hagen journey, we bumped into some people wearing MAF t-shirts. After I (Shiv) rudely introduced myself, we found out they were friends of some MAF colleagues, visiting PNG for the first time. We were able to help them navigate some of the challenges when trying to enter PNG. And in return, they taught us a really fun card game, which we played whilst waiting for our domestic connection. (I’ve forgotten the name of the card game, we must find out! 😁)
As always, it was a long journey back to PNG, and as we’re not home yet, the journey will continue. But it’s nice to be so much closer to home…
