New Floor Please?

We’ve had some of our maintenance team in Telefomin this past week doing some essential maintenance. Our Swiss neighbours have had plastic liners put in their 2 metal tanks, to stop the leeks due to rust, and the floor at the base has had some much needed repair work. In the photo, right, Eugene & Steven, our two Traffic Officers, are pointing out some of the big ruts in the cement floor which makes pushing trolleys loaded with cargo rather tricky.

The maintenance team made a new ramp into the base and filled in some of the biggest ruts in the floor, but sadly they didn’t have enough product to do the whole floor. This is one of the major challenges we face in PNG. The maintenance department have been trying to find the right product, to give us a safe floor, from within PNG, to keep costs down, but they just can’t find it in Mt Hagen, where our HQ is. They sent some from Australia, but unfortunately the shipping container was almost full with other items (like aircraft parts and furniture) so they couldn’t fit more floor product in. The guys did a great job with what they had, but they will have to come back again to finish the whole job, once we can find more of the right floor product.
