Church Building Materials Charter
In PNG, one of our most important jobs is flying to support the local Church! In the video, you can see Ryan taking a load of roofing iron from our MAF base in Tabubil to Selbang, a remote community in West Sepik Province. The Pastor travelling with the building materials tells Ryan that they are building a new Church in Selbang.
Selbang is one of our shortest airstrips at only 365m long, which means Ryan can only safely fly in about half a load in his aircraft, but that’s still a huge blessing to the Church in this remote and isolated community.
No commercial airlines fly to Selbang, so if MAF didn’t carry this roofing iron for them, they couldn’t get it to their new Church. The 20 min flight is a 4-5 day walk over steep mountains and through dense forests, which would be virtually impossible if you’re carrying sheets of roofing iron.
In most remote communities, including for us at home in Telefomin, roofing iron is a double blessing, not only does it keep you dry during tropical rainstorms, but it also enables you to collect clean drinking water without having to carry it from the river.
Watch the video, right.
