Flowers for our 3rd Anniversary
We celebrated our Anniversary back in June, as we expected to be in a Hotel in PNG in quarantine, so on our actual Anniversary we just went for a walk and picked wild flowers.
Board Games with Family
Shiv’s discovered that playing board games online is a really fun way to catch up with people. Carcassonne is a favourite of mine so I convinced Ryan’s sister to bring her version of the game to Alberta so we could teach Ryan’s Mum, who then beat us all!
Snowman
A few weeks after we arrived in Canada, Shiv got to build her first ever snowman that was bigger than her!

Canoeing the Battle River
We’ve had 2 trips canoeing different sections of the Battle River, which is just down the road from Brownfield. On our first trip we saw lots of Beavers. One our second trip, we went with 13 other people, all friends from the local area. We had a great afternoon floating along!
We have flight tickets!
We were so excited when we finally had permission to travel and received our flight tickets all the way to PNG. Sadly that flight, and the next booking, both got cancelled at the last minute…
Goodbye Faithful Friend
We recently had to say farewell to Tiberius, Ryan’s loyal puppy, who died suddenly at the age of 10. We were really grateful to still be in Canada so we could say goodbye properly.
Soggy Waterfall
Whilst driving through the Rockies, we stopped off for a short walk to a waterfall that was in flood due to the spring melt of snow. We walked really close and got drenched which was loads of fun!
Prairie Flowers
The last time we were in Canada, a few months after we got married in 2017, it was winter. When we arrived in March 2020, it was again winter. This lead me to believe that the only colours Alberta knew were white and brown. Imagine my surprise when the prairie flowers appeared!!!
Prepared for travel
Most airlines require the wearing of face masks throughout the airport and on all flights. That’s going to make our 3-day journey back to PNG a little more uncomfortable, but Shiv’s Mum custom-made some funky masks for us! :-D
Learning to be a Farm Girl!
Ryan’s best friend and Best Man, also named Ryan, took Shiv out on his seeder to learn a bit about life on the farm in Brownfield. It was very educational and then lots of fun watching the pea shoots appear in the field across from Ryan’s parents’ home!
Weekend with family in BC
We were afraid that COVID would prevent us from visit any family, but once our May flights got cancelled and things seemed to be calming down a little, we decided to make the trip to BC to visit some of Ryan’s close family.
Sylvan Lake Holiday
All our holiday plans got cancelled due to COVID, so we were super blessed to receive an offer from friends to stay in their cabin by the Lake for a week. It was so wonderful to get away and have a change of scene.
Prairie Storm
We’ve seen some beautiful storms, rainbows and sunsets whilst we’ve been enjoying an unexpected summer on the Alberta Prairie.
Being a great Uncle!
Ryan planting a baby tree with our eldest niece, Flannery, who is 6 and a half. Ryan’s sister, Rachel, and her two daughters have been living at Ryan’s parents’ home since we picked them up back at the start of May. It’s been a lovely opportunity to get to know our nieces better.
Spring Flowers
My Mother-in-law very graciously allowed me to pick flowers and plant them in one of the pots on her veranda. I was missing our garden back home in Telefomin, so a bit of garden therapy was great fun!
The Beautiful Rockie Mountains
Ryan is very fond of the Rockies, so when we were staying at Sylvan Lake we went out for a day trip and hiked a couple of hours to see some waterfalls and enjoy the fresh mountain air!
